Journalling helps, like for real.

I found myself waking up with anxiety two days in a row. I’ll be honest, it is usually hangxiety as naturally I am not an anxious being. However much like many other individuals I like to have an alcoholic drink and sometimes I overindulge. I believe our unconscious becomes unleashed after a few drinks and as much as I am living my best life most weekends, sometimes deep emotions seep through too, the parts of our unconscious that we try to suppress.

I don’t wake up regretting the night before, even though the pounding in my head might, this has nothing to do with overindulging. This is to do with suppressed emotions and overthinking.

As someone that rarely feels anxiety, it unsettled me and I had to desperately get rid of this feeling as it is not the norm for me. As someone who works with mentally unwell individuals I know the stories, I know how the tale goes and I know how much people struggle to even get through the day but I just never understood until recently. I could not even imagine feeling anxious for a couple hours let alone a whole day.

I got out of bed, I distracted myself by reading the news and a few book summaries until my nervous system settled and then I journalled.

I just let the pen flow, I recognised the anxious feeling, I made assumptions and contemplated on where it could have been coming from. I then realised the source and then carried on scribbling away to let it all out my head and then I ended with some positive affirmations.

I am Worthy.

I am Enough.

I Belong.

I am Strong.

I Love.

I am Loved.

I am Love.

I Got This.

Then I got my ass up and went for a swim and now i’m all fine and dandy.

Journal, let it out, do it your way, be curious about yourself and where you think the feelings and emotions and behaviours are coming from. Explore yourself and you will realise. Be kind to yourself too and always remember who you are and your strengths.
